Position Summary

IOWN is seeking a motivated Permitting Intern to join our Development team for Summer 2025. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity for a current student or recent graduate to gain experience in environmental permitting for utility-scale solar, wind, and battery storage projects across the U.S. The intern will contribute to real-world project development efforts while working alongside experienced professionals in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Current student (junior or senior) pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology, Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, Engineering, or a related field or recent college graduate with a degree in one of the above disciplines.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and accountability.
  • Excellent written and oral communication a skills.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills and experience reviewing technical documents.
  • Able to work as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Interest or prior experience in renewable energy development or environmental permitting.
  • Excellent computer skills working with standard office equipment, computers and various software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS or other mapping tools.
  • Current driver’s license and ability to travel extensively is required. Must maintain legally required insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing environmental permit applications for renewable energy projects.
  • Support project screening and due diligence activities.
  • Review and provide comments on consultant reports and project screening documentation.
  • Support light project management tasks, such as updating project trackers and timelines.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Permitting team or supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Compensation

$20.00 - $23.00 / hr

The above-listed salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. The salary range shared in the job description is for the listed position and only pertains to the candidate if they work in San Diego, CA. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, geographic location, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications. An additional discretionary bonus structure or incentives may be offered as part of the overall compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, dental, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
