Job description

IOWN Renewable Energy is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Estimator to support the development and execution of our utility-scale wind, solar, and battery storage projects. This role will be responsible for preparing capital expenditure (CAPEX) estimates, analyzing project costs, and providing data-driven insights to inform investment decisions and project execution strategies. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of renewable energy infrastructure, construction cost estimation, and financial modeling.

Salary Description: $100k-$130k Annually

The above-listed salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. The salary range shared in the job description is for the listed position and only pertains to the candidate if they work in San Diego, CA. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, geographic location, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications. An additional discretionary bonus structure or incentives may be offered as part of the overall compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, dental, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction estimating, preferably within the renewable energy sector.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing CAPEX estimates for utility-scale wind, solar, and battery storage projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software, financial modeling tools, and database management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Current driver’s license and ability to travel as needed for site visits and stakeholder meetings.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and project management tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed CAPEX estimates for utility-scale wind, solar, and battery storage projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Analyze engineering designs, project plans, and technical specifications to generate accurate cost and timeline assessments.
  • Conduct site visits to gather essential project data, validate cost assumptions, and refine estimates.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to refine estimates, align on project scope, and ensure cost-effective execution.
  • Track and analyze actual costs versus estimates throughout the project lifecycle, identifying areas for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Maintain and enhance an up-to-date cost database, including subcontractor quotes, material pricing, labor rates, and industry benchmarks.
  • Prepare and present cost reports, financial models, and forecasts to project managers, finance teams, and key stakeholders.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, market pricing, and construction methodologies to continuously improve estimation accuracy and financial viability.
  • Support contract negotiations and vendor selection by providing cost insights and benchmarking data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
