Job description

IOWN Renewable Energy, Inc. is seeking a Director, Development Services to join our team. This is an opportunity to support the growth of IOWN and IOWN clients by utilizing your development and project management experience. This would be a fantastic opportunity to step into a smaller, innovative and nimble team putting to use your passion for leadership and utility-scale project development and services all while working collaboratively with the solar and standalone storage teams in North America.

The candidate will work for a rapidly growing renewable energy company headquartered in San Diego which seeks an innovative, focused, and motivated leader to start a team of professionals doing commercial modeling of projects and deal structures.

Remote candidates will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates who live in or can relocate to San Diego area, CA.

About the Position

The Director, Development Services will oversee the technical aspects of utility-scale wind, solar and storage development. This role will support the development of greenfield wind, solar and storage projects from initial feasibility studies, through preliminary design and interconnection, and on to commercial operation. This is a dynamic role in a growing organization with an opportunity to lead and build a best-in-class team

You take initiative to conduct market intelligence and research when moving into new markets and areas in the US and support innovative and creative ways of supporting the development of utility-scale projects.

Requirements

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technical discipline or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • At least 3-5 years utility-scale renewable energy industry development experience with 2 years in utility-scale storage.
  • Experience with translating specific technology parameters into energy or resource production models.
  • Experience with electrical collection system designs and electrical grid interconnections, including single line diagrams, permit applications, compliance with utility standards and electrical codes.
  • Strong cross-cultural relationship building and influencing at all organizational levels.
  • Experience with CAISO, MISO, ERCOT markets is strongly preferred.
  • Keen understanding of supply and demand, policy/regulation, markets, and financial metrics that drive successful project development.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and accountability.
  • Ownership of workflows to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong cross-cultural relationship building and influencing at all organizational levels.
  • Flexible and cooperative with a well-developed team spirit.

Responsibilities

  • Coordination and management of resource assessment, GIS mapping, preliminary design and layouts, and technology evaluation.
  • Lead or participate in interconnection application submittals and scoping efforts.
  • Participate in technical due diligence of utility-scale renewable energy and storage projects in all stages of the development phase, for acquisition, or sale.
  • Coordination of all federal, state, and local permits and studies.
  • Lead teams responsible for detailed design and layouts of projects, including modeling of energy generation and energy firming (i.e., use of batteries or other storage technologies in various use cases).
  • Support land acquisition and entitlement for assigned projects.
  • Generate energy assessments and participate in developing and updating revenue stacking models.
  • Support technology assessment and market intelligence with respect to various technology solutions to be incorporated in project designs and bids.
  • Participate in bidding, evaluation, and procurement of certain services and contractors (environmental, permitting, engineering, procurement, construction).
  • Assist or lead, as applicable, any contract review, negotiation, and management of contracts.
  • Fully understand financial drivers of all projects assigned.
  • Monitor solar local and federal policy development.
  • Work with other internal and external teams and colleagues in the development, construction, and asset management of projects.
